Beacember Advent Calendar Day #15

So, we’ve made it through to the holidays (in terms of the blog at least)! That takes the pressure off of these late night postings, so hopefully the last few memories of the run-up to Beatrice’s first Christmas will be easier to get documented. That is if I don’t spend the whole time having a giggle with her! She’s definitely a bit of a thrill-seeker already. A sure-fire way of getting a chuckle is to swing her (carrying her a bit like a rugby ball) towards either myself or Lucy, or as I found out to my detriment, being held and then dropping down to a squat from standing (and naturally, back up again and repeated to get more giggles!).

Anyway, the day started off with something I hope isn’t going to become a Beacember tradition with the car refusing to work. Silver lining of that was I got to see Bea awake before I left, and I also got a lift in with the awesome duo! It also meant I got to see them earlier as usual as I got picked up as well, bonus!

Onto day 15 then, what was that tissue paper all about? It was in fact this stunning bauble from Bea! Lucy had been making secret trips to Dotty Pottery, which is a local ceramics studio and gave this to me about a week ago. It’s so cool and shiny! It’s also a way better handprint of Beatrice than any of the ones I’ve tried to do (I’ll explain more once the Christmas rush is over and done with). I was totally surprised, and can’t wait to put it on the tree!

Tomorrow is the first one where I’ve felt a little underprepared, so here’s the photo to get you thinking!

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #14

Today was one of those weird days where Bea is asleep when I leave, and asleep when I get home. I was very proud to be involved in our annual school panto, where we get outstanding performances from some brilliant children. Wherever she ends up at school, if she gets a chance to be in a play like that, we’ll be some proud parents indeed. It did mean getting home around half past nine though, which is not ideal!

So it’s a quick post from me tonight, after leaving Lucy alone to the duties mentioned yesterday.

I also got a taste of what the day job is like for Lucy, as a video of them both dancing away at a Christmas party was great to see despite the grainy quality!

Today’s advent calendar reveal is, quite frankly, I’m not sure. But it’s cute and looks Christmassy! Is it a Ms. Santa dress? Probably. Either way, it fits the bill!SAM_8994.JPG

What’s that? You only come here for the teaser bit at the end? Fine, I’d hate to disappoint…

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #13

I’m looking forward to the weekend now, can’t wait to spend the Christmas run-in with Lucy and Bea. We’re putting the tree up and currently have no other plans, so I can switch off from work completely.

Bathtime is a fun challenge at the moment, well, the ‘afterbath’ is anyway. We basically have to apply 3/4 different creams, at least 2 of which need to be nowhere near her mouth. As I’ve previously mentioned, she’s quite adept at shoving her hands in there at the moment. She also has started recognising her knees, and when lying on her back she will rest her hands on them (like some kind of wise old sage sat on their throne).

Essentially, this means she drags her hands from her knees, right through the steroid cream en route to her mouth. Brilliant.

We’ve been tag-teaming this since we got the cream, but going solo is not recommended!

Imagine, if you will, somehow keeping hold of both of her hands/arms whilst trying to apply the cream, then following that up with the usual nappy routine, all the while panicking that if you/she lets go, she’s going to scoop up a handful of delicious steroid-filled cream and shove it right in her gob. Oh, and she’s hungry and tired and not responding to the usual variety of songs!

Sorry, I know that goes against my usual stance of focusing on the positives – like the way she holds onto my hand with both of hers if I rest it on her tummy, but it was quite a funny (if not a bit stressful) moment this evening! She settled fine after all that though, and the cream is working at least. It’s still easier than the bloody syringe!

Back to the Beacember routine…yesterday’s teaser was of this gorgeous decoration made by a team effort of my nephew and Bea’s Nanna. Yet another reason why I can’t wait to get the tree up!

Time for tomorrow’s sneak preview…

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #12

We’re at the halfway point of celebrating our first Christmas with Beatrice (well, via the blog anyway!), and thanks to everyone for following us along our little journey.

Today’s item is a suitable shiny bauble to celebrate the halfway point! This was a beautiful gift from one of Beatrice’s baby friends (I’m sure their parents had a part to play in it too…).  Big thank you from me as I haven’t had the chance to do so in person, it’ll look great on the tree once it’s up!SAM_9090.JPG

Mondays are always the day I want to get home from work the quickest, after having a fun weekend with my special duo. So when the traffic gets in the way on the route home, it’s a little frustrating! Made the most of it when I got home though, and found out that Bea is becoming somewhat of an adrenaline junkie (she loves being spooked and jiggled about). It’s always fun to find out what things Lucy has discovered during the day, even if Beatrice doesn’t always want to play along when I’m there!

Anyway, enough waffling for today, you’re here to find out that the film was…SAM_9104.JPG

She’s clocking up the festive film hours already!

Tomorrow’s item? Guesses more than welcome in the comments! And if you’re responsible for it, then sssh!

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #11

Day 11.

As you can see, I’ve found an app for pimping some photos…just not the one below! This is of another pair of festive tights (apparently!).

Day 11.jpg

One of the more tenuous ones, I’m going to get back on track I promise!

Today we went out for a nice Sunday lunch, where we were offered a children’s menu for the first time. Somewhat ambitious! We’re not quite at that stage yet, though Beatrice does love gnawing at various blankets and objects at the moment.

It’s also fascinating to see her engage with all kinds of materials at the moment; watching her eyebrows crinkle in concentration as she realises what she is holding is really cool!

One such item will be featuring in a future advent calendar post too!

Day 12 is inside this box, what could it be?

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #10

10 days in, still going strong. Running out of photos, if not items, so need a panic photo shoot tomorrow! Today’s featured photo was taken by my four-year-old nephew when he was let loose with my camera a few weeks ago. He has a good eye for detail!

Today involved an afternoon at the local garden centre for Beatrice to get entranced by the twinkly lights! And, as always, an excuse for tea and cake…

Beatrice also got to watch her first Christmas film. I say watch, she sat nicely on my lap for about 5 minutes then got a bit fidgety. I’m going to reveal which film in another advent calendar post, feel free to guess in the comments though (or make other suggestions for her to watch!). It’s not Die Hard though, she’s a bit young for that!

Here’s day 10’s item…a long-sleeved vest. I think we’ve more or less covered all the possible clothing items barring novelty reindeer hairbands, etc.SAM_9071.JPG

The countdown continues with day 11 tomorrow…

I’ve been informed that gingerbread counts as Christmas before you all start correcting me (I was also in two minds about it…).

Beacember Advent Calendar Day # 9

We move onto day 9! Just a quick update today as I’ve had a rare evening out! Obviously being back by 10:30 tells you it wasn’t a big one…

I know I won’t be alone in this, and if anything I’m very lucky to have a job where I can get home before 5 if I choose to, but the days where I only see Beatrice in the morning are really weird! Still, tomorrow is the weekend, so that tends to make up for it!

Her item for today is a very festive dress, that is actually very tight to get over her head. It’s something you don’t always consider when buying clothes (but probably should), but the ease of removal and access is definitely worth a think. We couldn’t resist this one though!

Tomorrow is the last day of the ‘Syringe Sorrows’ too. Sadly, all our efforts still seem to be in vain, so we will see what happens next! Day 10 awaits…

Looking forward to the weekend!

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #8

Sorry for the slightly later update today, laptop was needed for things!

Tonight was one of those mixed evenings where I stayed a bit later at work, meaning less time with Beatrice when I got home. It was slightly bemusing to see her sat in her Bumbo on the floor of the kitchen with Leo curiously sidling up to her though! The customary welcome smile and giggle soon followed and we fought the battle of the syringe for the umpteenth time. She genuinely doesn’t seem to want to even look us in the eye for a few minutes afterwards (“How dare you even do such a thing to me?!”- note, this has now led to me having a range of possible future voices for Bea in my head. Not sure which one I prefer yet).

Thankfully, that moment passes soon after, and after a short ‘daddicure’ normal routine was observed! Cutting a baby’s fingernails is one of those things that they don’t really warn you about. On more than one occasion (in the morning) her face looks like she has decided to clamber through a rosebush! My hobby (which I’m unlikely to do anything with for the forseeable) involves small intricate things, so cutting the tiniest of fingernails is quite relaxing, until Beatrice decides that moving that entire arm at an alarming speed is absolutely necessary just as I’m about to snip.

Back to advent calendar duties…

Day 8 is this sleepsuit:

Is it to early to send a letter off to Santa? Probably…

Day 9 features this little chap! See you all tomorrow!

Beacember Advent Calendar Day # 7

One of the strange things about doing this advent calendar is that I’ve totally forgotten to have my own! Thankfully at this time of year, being a primary school teacher means that there is no shortage of chocolate in the staff room so I guess it’s slipped down the priority list!

I also learned today that going solo on giving the medication is a definite no-no! Thankfully it was all in the bath (she has a very secure bath seat before people start panicking), so no major mess!

So here’s today’s item, a top from Sainsbury’s that was given to us by a friend who couldn’t resist it on their normal shop run! I always think that on first glance these sorts of clothes will never fit her – I guess in my mind she’s still smaller than she is! They always seem too wide and long. I have no idea if that feeling will ever go away!

day-7

She’s currently sleeping in what waits behind door number 8…

See you tomorrow!

Beacember Advent Calendar Day #6

Slightly more sociable posting time today, so you can get a dose of Christmas cuteness before bed! Today’s offering is a snazzy pair of pudding tights, which as you can see are perfect to go with all her other red Christmas things…

Speaking of which, here she is in her outfit featured yesterday – she wasn’t too happy about the photos but she does look very festive in it!

Before this was taken, I also managed to get an update of the cover shot for the blog. Look how big her feet are now, crazy!

Tomorrow’s is a gift from a friend of ours, I don’t think Bea will be allowed to forget this is her first Christmas! I somehow doubt there’s a market for ‘Second’ and ‘Third’ Christmas outfits, but you never know!
